Why is it called College View?

My cousin Dorothy Cox-Rothwell (nee Williams) asked me that question earlier today and I remembered that someone had posted the answer, quite a while back

After much searching, I found this post from Dawn (Fiebig) Livingstone:
is anyone interested to know how Academy Road got its name.. and College View and College? It is because the Georgetown Academy was located there... sounds reasonable eh?

Construction began about 1855, and it was known through the years as The Canadian Collegiate Institute, The Georgetown Academy and the Georgetown College.

It was demolished in 1911, and the bricks were used to build three large homes on Academy Road. I know the Bradleys used to live in one of them.

The culvert under the tracks on John Street was originally built to give access to the Academy... your history lesson for today
