Trying to find an old friend

Postby jackiecalder7hotmailcom » Thu Apr 28, 2005 10:36 pm

Hi again Don & Collin

Still trying to find Pamela Mayberry. I posted on the "In Memory" site which was so inapprorate. Her parents moved back to England in 1963/64 or maybe 65. She dated Kim Gunn - where is he now? Does anyone remember her but me?

Also, I'm basically new to this so haven't been able to go thru a lot of the sites - it can take weeks to read everything. Sent the site to my sister in Calgary.

Don, did not know you had a hearing loss - I was just trying to catch up and saw that post.

Jackie

Also, how do I become a "Registered User"?

Hi Jackie,
Not sure if you remember me or not(maiden name Arthurs) - I remember Pam Mayberry from Harrison School - I think she tried out for track with me - I was at Harrison from Grade 3 - 8 (Grade 8 was in '63 I think) I don't remember her at GDHS so I'm not sure if we just didn't hang out together or if she moved away. I also remember Kim Gunn - he and I were best buddies in elementary school - I heard he'd joined the RCMP and was out west somewhere - that was quite a few years ago now.

Hi Judy

Sorry for the delay in replying. I do remember you but I think more from high school. Our family moved from Acton to Georgetown and my grade 8 year was at Harrison. I was the new girl in the "senior" class. I was also asked to be a cheer leader which did not bode well with some others, so I never really had any friends that year (I was told this by --- Geddes? - she told me that everybody had gone to school at Harrison all their lives and hoped to be a cheerleader, but new girl coming in getting the nod . . . . !), but moving on to GDHS Pam was one of the people in my class and we became very good friends. She dated Kim Gunn many times and I do remember him. Was it Mr. Craig or Greig? our teacher - tall, slim. When her family returned to England we kept in touch for years and I often think of her. I found a site on-line for old friends in England but under her name I can't find her. Don't know if she's married.

Would love to hear from you again.

Jackie

Hi Jackie -
I remember Mr. Gregg (?) also from school - I think he lived around the corner on Prince Charles - not sure - I have a Grade 8 graduation picture here somewhere and am going to post it when I find it. I'm also going to ask Linda (Rudiger)Pilgrim about Pam Mayberry - she's kept up on a lot of the old school chums. She's in Guelph and has kept in touch with me over all these years even though we're miles apart (I'm in NS) - she's coming for a visit again this summer. She might be able to help. I've been trying to remember if Kim Gunn was at the last reunion we had (in the late 80's I think). She'll remember. Sorry about the cheerleader thing - I don't think I was one of the jealous ones though as I was more into track, baseball, that kind of thing - kids can be pretty mean sometimes - hopefully you weren't excluded completely! Will let you know if I find out anything else. Also, I think it was Eleanor Geddes.
Judy

Hi again Judy

PLEASE find that picture! We often forget, but going thru this site, and "talking" to you so many memories come back. When you mentioned the picture I remembered that there was a guest speaker at our Grade 8 graduation from Africa. It would be considered not "PC" today, but then . . he was black in traditional dress. I can still see him - it was a black/white/grey robe and headpiece I can only explain as being a Jackie O type pillbox (and this was a few years before we knew about her). Do you remember that? Who was the teacher? I will pay you to have a copy of that.

Other things that bring back so many memories of that day is Barb Pankenin (?) making fun of me because the zipper got stuck on my dress (to my undershirt) and she made fun of me because I didn't need a bra yet and let everyone know it. I remember Jackie Bowell being the most sophisticated in an orange and white one-shoulder thing with her hair done to the nines. I think they told us we could wear our "curlers" to school that day - I think I did and and I think Barb did.

Jackie

Hey Jackie,
I do remember that guest speaker - I think we had our graduation at Wrigglesworth school, right? The reason I remember him so vividly is because I thought he was asking me to dance (he'd reached by my arm) but he was actually reaching for the food - I ended up grabbing his arm, food was spilled, you get the picture, totally embarrassing (especially at that age) and I'm not sure if you remember or not but my face used to go bright bright red - I think he eventually danced a few steps with me - what else could he do??
Anyway, I was in touch with Linda Rudiger - says to say hi - apparently she was sitting next to your sister at a Robbie Burns dinner a few years ago at the G'town Legion. Wants to know if you remember her holding your pompoms for you when you were a cheerleader at Harrison for field day - apparently this was some great honour. She also remembers Pam very well She says she and Pam did a lot together during one grade - says she's digging up some pics - she's pretty sure you're in some of them. Said she remember Pams dad was a bricklayer and painted a mural on their living room wall when he was off on rainy days. Said she was very close to her mother.
Let me know if you want me to send her your email address as she said she can send you some of the pictures.
Also, am working on that Gr.8 graduation picture - I'm positive I have it here.
that's about it for now - let me know re the email - I wouldn't give it to her without your permission.
see ya,
Judy

Yo Judy

Definitely give my e-mail address to Linda. I think the Grade 8 Graduation was at Harrison. We must have some pictures somewhere. My dad moved out of his house on Prince Charles Drive in 2000 and moved into Mountainview Residence near the Glen. My brother, sister and I helped him clear out his house and Gerry gave me a boxes of pictures. I've only gone thru a few so I'm going to have to get in gear and go thru them all. Might find some pictures myself. About the pom-poms - no I don't recall.

Ciau

Jackie

Not sure if this is the right section to post in, but I went to school with Cathy Chamberlain for more than a decade, and was in Scouts with her brothers Darryl and Brian. Does anyone know how Cathy died? Regards, Richard
