So true John we were given our own brain for a reason. Time some of us used it.

"....the separatist-minded Parti Quebecois assumes that it has the right not only to call as many referendums on Quebec separatism as it wants, but that those lost don't count while a victory, even by a single vote, decides everything no matter the opposed ruling of the Supremer Court of Canada." -Richard Gwyn, columnist, April 1, 2014.

“The Portman Group is a gloomy gaggle of killjoy jobsworths, funded by navel-gazing international drinks giants. Their raison d’être is to provide a diversion for the true evils of this industry, perpetrated by the gigantic faceless brands that pay their wages. Blinkered by this soulless mission, they treat beer drinkers like brain-dead zombies and vilify creativity and competition. Therefore, we have never given a second thought to any of the grubby newspeak they disseminate periodically. … While the Portman Group lives out its days deliberating whether a joke on a bottle of beer is responsible or irresponsible use of humour, at BrewDog we will just get on with brewing awesome beer.” — spokesperson for BrewDog, a small Scottish brewery

The Portman Group is a UK trade group whose members include extremely large beverage companies like Diageo, Bacardi, Molson Coors UK, Carslberg UK and Heineken UK. It is self-tasked to operate (enforce) an industry code of practice on the naming, packaging and promotion of alcoholic products.

Some of BrewDogs brands are: Dead Pony Club (a California pale ale), Punk IPA, Libertine IPA and Hardcore IPA.
They sound almost Australian. :D

50 years since I left G'town High

Postby Mark Llew » Sun Jul 20, 2014 3:18 pm

When I began there in 1959, it was known as GHS. When I left in 1964 we called it GDHS.

Many memories of the High School, a few of them unpleasant... but I have trouble remembering those. What sticks out overwhelmingly are the good memories. Miss Knocker, the unfortunate Mr Kaye, Jumbo at assemblies, English with Paul Legge, Fuzzy Walker and Miss Piercey, Mike 'Mr Pumblechook' Peleschak, teasing Mrs Glynn, skipping class and hanging out in the stairwell near the cafeteria (with the smokers).

And the friendships. Sadly I see few of those friends now. A couple have passed away, but most are just far away, or I've simply lost touch with them and don't know how to find them.

But to be young was very heaven!" — William Wordsworth

Well Mark, I know how you feel.

For me it's 60 years ago, that I finished up and the only classmate I've seen in the last umpteen years has been Richard Sienko, who visited Australia a few years back and we caught up then. Before that, the '87 Reunion was the last I saw any of them

Jean Béliveau

Postby Mark Llew » Thu Dec 04, 2014 11:44 pm

"It made perfect sense in 1995 that Jean Chrétien would offer a man of Mr. Béliveau's bearing the job of governor-general. Mr. Béliveau turned down that offer, as well as one from Brian Mulroney to take a seat in the Senate... Those prime ministers offered him the wrong jobs. He was better suited to theirs." — Editorial in the Globe and Mail today

“It is time for Canadians and Americans to move beyond the sentimental rhetoric of the past. It is time for us to recognize that we have very separate identities; that we have significant differences; and that nobody’s interests are furthered when these realities are obscured.” — Richard Nixon, addressing the Canadian Parliament in 1972
