This Sunday We Walk With Joy

Postby Petitbois » Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:46 am

The Georgetown Hospital has been fundraising for several years to finance their expansion and the acquisition of a CT scanner.
This Sunday is the 6th Annual Walk for the hospital.
As some of you know, Joy was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer on her 65th birthday. The past three months have brought her to her last days with us, and she is holding on by a very slender thread.

For several years Joy has been part of the Georgetown Hospital Fundraising Walk, representing, what else, Team Glen Williams. This year, Joy is an honorary walker. She had set a personal goal of $500. This morning her total is $2955.

If you would like to make a small donation in her name, it can be done simply through this secure link:
https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1079225&supId=390473917

We thank Dave Cox for this button that the Glen Team will wear in her honour on Sunday....

Thanks for trying, JB.
For me, it works every time. I just tried it again and it went right there...and that's with my old iMac....
Of course, with your Allis Chalmers PC you might have trouble getting a link to load on the etchasketch monitor through the 3 wire extension cord.... being that yer up there on ole highway 24 an all.....
Maybe you could cut an paste it into yer browser..... but don't let me catch you eatin' any of that there white pastie glue, you hear?

I've tried 10 times, it won't take my card, I don't have a problem with it anywhere else. I'll print it and do it that way.

Likely some kind of browser issue, JB. A couple people mentioned the same to Dave Cox, but for many others it was fine.
Go figure.

And while I was typing the entry above, another email came in, updating Joy's total to $3165.
Wow!

I had the same trouble as JB. It just wouldn't accept my card information. I tried 3 times ! !

Like JB I have no trouble using it on other websites.

Then I tried to print the donation form, no luck there either.
No problem with editing posts PB we are all quite used to having you do that.

I wish this site would have worked I know you don't need any added BS.

Hi guys

You can do it another way.

Just goggle Walk for Georgetown Hospital Sept. 29th 2013

A page will come up. On the left hand side you will see something like "find a walker" Click on it and then enter Joy's name.

Words can't express the sorrow I feel right now Dave. Not just for you and your family but for all of us who knew her.

Thank God she is out of pain and at peace.

Hi everybody, If you are having trouble with the site, please email us your particulars and e-mail and amount of your donation for the tax receipts at dcox@bell.net or phone 905-877-7874 and we will make the donation on your behalf in exchange for a cheque made out to Dale or me in the near future. Thanks in advance for your generosity on Joy's behalf.
Dave.

At the risk of taking liberties... as well as could be expected, considering, although it's been a struggle.

Peeb is a strong guy -- I hope that I would be able to bear up as well as he has if I ever had to support my wife through something as terrible as this, God forbid.

Thanks Mark

He is a strong fellow. It will take a long time to get over the shock of the last three months. I hope he is resting and recovering from quite an ordeal.

Hang in there PB. We miss you.

Linda, I am touched by your concern.
Whereas, Llew, I am concerned by your touch!

I think I am coping, thanks for asking. Sleep is still far out of whack- I keep waking in the night at 2:30, 3:30, 4, 5:30 etc...just like when I was checking on Joy. I know it will take a while to come back to a normal pattern after 3 months of caregiving.
But man, it still doesn't seem real to me. My head can't get around the fact that in such a short time, she's gone from my life forever. The house is an empty place without her to give it spark and life.

Tears come at unexpected times. But I am very lucky. Friends like Llew call often, and there are lots of family, especially on Joy's side, who loved Joy dearly and have offered wonderful support. Tonight I've had 3 long calls from friends, another this aft. The Walk yesterday was a real help- so many people offered their best wishes and support, and donations through Joy may hit $8000. Neighbours have brought food and meals.
I am a lucky man in that regard.
And I will get through this, I know. But I'll never be the same.
Forty years on July 28.....

Thanks for replying Dave.

You will be in a sort of fog for quite awhile. It is almost like you are watching life go by but not quite there.

Thank God you have such a great support system and friends like Mark.

$8,000.00 Wow, that is how much she was loved.

Did Joy get to see the renovations on your house finished?

Take care David and know that we are thinking about you.

I was unable to attend Joy' Celebration of Life" yesterday as I was in Michigan at my daughters.

I was very sorry to miss it.

Did anyone here go to it. If so how was it?

How was David?

The service was held in the same church that Dave and Joy had been married in 40 years ago. It was very moving, and was attended by a large crowd (it filled the church and the parish hall next door). Dave's and Joy's daughter Krista delivered a very sweet eulogy, and had all of us in tears. At the end of the service we all marched out singing along to "Spirit in the Sky", one of Joy's favourites and one that always got her jumping onto the dance floor. Even the priest sang along!

Afterwards we convened at the golf club up the hill, the same place where Dave and Joy had had their wedding reception. Good food... and good memories, related by a number of friends, relatives and co-workers to a backdrop of slides put together by Peeb, and MCed by one of Joy's longest friends. Dave spoke magnificently at the end, and once again we were all in tears !

A wonderful farewell to Joy's life on this earth.
