Knew to look!

The GTOL home page is a place I seldom if ever go to, since I'm usually on here in the Message Forum.
So going there just now was a pleasant surprise. The new look is clean and efficient, and a very nice upgrade.
Well done!!

Gloria, Linda, Peeb,

Thanks for your kind words, makes it all worthwhile.

There's a way to go yet, but for starters, I at least wanted to replicate what was already there, sort of a "Spring Clean" and allround "Tidy Up".

Now that, that is in place we can start looking at how to improve it and trust me, I'm open for suggestions (already JB has anted up a couple).

What I'm really in need of is a good graphic for the masthead, that's the bit right at the top where the postcard of the old mill sits.

If anyone's interested, it needs to be no wider than 940px and must be 80px high.

In my mind, I'm trying to visualise a montage of triliums, marsh marigolds, spring water, Chapel St. School, GHS, etc.
All sumissions gratefully accepted and if we manage to get more than one :hide: , we might even run a Member Poll to decide.

More, as it happens.

The old man is faster than a speeding bullet.
By the way don't let that picture fool you, he really is older than dirt.

The site isn't just getting older, it's getting better. You too Al! :bolt: Thought I had the wrong place when I first logged in. Quickly getting used to it now. Colin and Don have done a great job but it definitely needed some freshening up. Nice update to the site Al.

I am not sure how many folks realize this, COLIN has not been part of the GTOL for a few years, my son and I, bought him out and took over when COLIN wanted to move on and I could not stand the thought of the site be closed down, the folks that really need to be thanked are JENNIFER GILBERT, BONNIE COURCHESNE and AL DARBY, they helped a NON-TECH guy keep the ship afloat.
Thanks JEN, BONNIE and AL, also Kim, Lisa, Dee Dee, PB and Gloria that for a time assisted moderating some forums, to those folks I also say thank you!

Who's Been Looking and at What?

Postby Al Darby » Sun Apr 11, 2010 9:02 pm

Part of our revamp of the website, message boards and the vault has been to start collecting accurate statistics about where are viewers located and what are they looking at.

It's only from the first 4 days of collecting, but I thought you might find the results to date intersting:
<click> on these links to see the Cities that have visited us and the Pages they looked at. The Pages document has been truncated, the full report is over 20 pages and the final 20 pages would "bore you to snores".

OK Gang, who's from where on the map? I won't ask what pages you looked at.

You all know I'm the little orange dot on the right side of Australia: Sydney, who's that lurking over on the left in Perth?

Not sure. I do see somebody jumping up and down, waving a wiener, is that you?

I think it would be neat if we could attach our Google Earth (GE) .kmz files, so anyone using GE can see exactly where we are.

Right now, we can't do it, but I've asked Jen if she can wave her magic wand to make it happen.

Speaking of waving, maybe you could paint an ice-cream cone on the roof of your shop; Waving Weiners in Winter is a Worry, especially at your tender age.

In the absence of a .kmz file, just type in my address: 24 Mentmore Ave, Rosebery, NSW Australia 2018 As luck would have it, the day they took the picture was the day they were resurfacing my pool and all you can see of it is the tarpaulin covering it, to prevent drying out too quickly. You can also see their "mixer", parked in my neighbour's front yard. The black strips on the roof are the solar heating for the pool.

Gotchya!

Piktoor's a tad fuzzy, but I see your neighbour Dial A Show at 40-B advertises on GE.
Maybe they don't bother focussing the camera once it's passed G'town. :bop: :bolt: :hide:

You don't have to type in the address, Just highlight it with your mouse.
When you do you will see a little arrow beside it. Click on the arrow.
A menu will drop down, pick search with Google maps.
It will give you a street map with a + - on it, hit the plus and you will see a street view of the address.
These pictures were taken last summer.
You can pan around and drive up and down the street.
If you've never been somewhere you can take a tour around town.
